Welcome to the Large Magnet Facility

The Large Magnet Facility (LMF), within the Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group at CERN, is responsible for the construction, maintenance and operational support of superconducting accelerator magnets. The facility is now focused on the production of the coils, magnets and cold masses for HL-LHC, while contributing to the development of future superconducting magnet technologies. Mandate:

  • Produce coils, magnets and cold masses for the HL-LHC project.
  • Manufacture, maintenance and technical support for superconducting magnets used in CERN’s accelerator complex.
  • Operate, maintain and continuously improve the Large Magnet Facility infrastructure.
  • Produce and maintain electrical distribution systems, including busbars, electrical connections and interconnections.
  • Storage and logistics management of stores, cold masses as well as cryostatized magnets.
